FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Fontana Unified School District Announces New Associate Superintendent, Educational Services
Dr. Debra Bradley, Fontana Unified School District Superintendent of Schools, announced today the appointment of Laurie St. Gean as the district's new Associate Superintendent, Educational Services. Fontana's Board of Education
confirmed her recommendation at their meeting this evening.
Ms. St. Gean currently serves as Deputy Superintendent for the Sierra Sands Unified School District in Kern County, where her responsibilities include all Curriculum and Instructional programs, similar to the responsibilities in Fontana. Her previous experience includes service as Compton Unified's Senior Director of Accountability, as principal of Rosamond High School, as a middle school teacher, and in other administrative roles.
"Laurie St. Gean will be an excellent
partner for Fontana Unified," Dr. Bradley said. "She
knows that Fontana is in the forefront of raising student achievement, and she
admires the work that has already been accomplished here. She's known as a good
listener and a consensus-builder, and she greatly values the thoughts and
concerns of parents and teachers. She has been trained in the curriculum audit
process that has been so important in Fontana, and she also brings business
official training and Total Quality Management experience, which will make her
very valuable as we embark on our curriculum-based budgeting process for the
2004-05 school year. I'm very enthused to find someone of Laurie's caliber to
join us and to bring her expertise alongside us."
"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work for Fontana's schools," St. Gean said, "because their focus is on raising student achievement and on what's happening in the classroom. Fontana is very attractive to me because the district has a dedicated staff that is already in the forefront of improving student achievement. The district is very well regarded because what's taking place here is obviously working, and the growth has been sustained over time. Part of my role will be to make sure that the successful practices are implemented throughout the system. My career has always been focused on working with teachers to improve the instructional program and to make sure that students are successful. I'm really looking forward to working alongside Fontana's team."
