We are saddened to
report the passing of Emmanuel (“Mannie”) J. D’Souza, who served Fontana Unified
School District’s students for almost 19 years.
Mannie’s family has
asked us to convey their appreciation for the many expressions of support,
sympathy and prayer they have received.
Mannie is survived by
his wife Christine, his two sons, Victor and Basil, daughters-in-law Sonia and
Celeste, and granddaughters Alexis and Haley. Another granddaughter is expected
very soon -- Jaiden Emmanuel D’Souza.
Before joining the
Fontana schools, Mannie worked for the Exxon Oil Company, for the Orange County
Schools Office, and in the American embassy in Pakistan (where he was also known
for his skill at cricket and earned several competitive ping pong trophies). He
applied that same competitive spirit to winning school construction funding for
our students, bringing them over $700 million in new classroom funding during
his service.
