Doctorate Degrees for Two FUSD Principals

Giovanni Annous, Principal at Fontana Middle School, and his sister, Jinane Annous, Principal at Oak Park Elementary School, successfully defended their dissertation at the University of LaVerne for a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership on March 31, 2005.   Mr. Annous and Ms. Annous have traveled through life together from their childhoods in Lebanon through their appointments as principal positions, on the same day in 2003, through today.

Mr. Annous emigrated from Lebanon in 1982 as a student.  He graduated from Cerritos College and California State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical & Clinical Engineering in 1990.  During this time, he purchased his home in Fontana, brought his parents, sister and niece to the U.S. from Lebanon and became a naturalized American citizen.  His career in the district has included being a Science Teacher at Sequoia Middle School and as Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and now Principal at Fontana Middle School.  He has been with the Fontana Unified School District for over 10 years.

Ms. Annous received her Bachelor’s degree in French Literature from Lebanese University in Beirut.  After immigrating to the U.S. in 1987, she earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from National University in San Diego.  She became a naturalized U.S citizen in 1996.  This is her 21st year in education.   She has been with the district since 1991 working in elementary, middle and high schools.   She has won a number of commendations for her teaching and her contribution to education.

They say that as children in civil war-torn Lebanon, they shared daily allowances, books and their dreams for a better future.  Their shared dreams continue to this day with the completion of their doctoral program.
