Each year, the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools along with the
San Bernardino County School Boards Association and County Communicators
Network, recognizes individuals and groups who give outstanding service and
support to public education with the San Bernardino County Education Medal of
Honor. When this year's honorees were announced, Fontana Unified School
District's Julie Ramos, PTA President at
Oak Park Elementary School, was
named in the category of Volunteer in Action/Community Volunteer.
In her nomination of Ramos, Principal Jinane Annous wrote that she is more
than a parent volunteer at her children’s school. Julie symbolizes the warmth and nurturing environment so prevalent at
Oak Park Elementary School. She organizes fundraisers that pay for students’ field trips and assemblies
and was instrumental in establishing a program to raise student attendance.
Julie has been involved with Oak Park
for eight years and has three children who have attended the school. "Oak
Park’s appreciative staff rely on the PTA and Ramos to foster a spirit of
community that is invaluable," added Annous.
