Grant Elementary School Dedication

On May 18, 2005, the Dedication Ceremony was held for Fontana Unified School District's 27th and newest elementary school, Dorothy Grant Elementary School.

After Principal Nelson Togerson welcomed everyone to the Dedication, FUSD Superintendent, Dr. Charles D. Milligan, took over the duties of  master of ceremonies.  Dr. Milligan introduced the many dignitaries in attendance, including Senator Nell Soto, Raquel Garcia (representative of County Supervisor Paul Biane), County Supervisor Josie Gonzalez, Christian Nelson (representative of Senator Robert Dutton), Deanna Gomez (representative of Congressman Joe Baca), Rafael Trujillo (representative of Assemblyman Joe Baca, Jr.), San Bernardino County Schools Business Director Scott Shira, FUSD Board Members, district and county administration, as well as the school's namesake, Ms. Dorothy Grant.  PSWC Architects Jim Stinson, Steve Varner and Roy Gutierrez, who designed the school,  were also present at the Dedication Ceremony, as was John Thomas of Tadros & Youseff, the contractors for the project.

During the Dedication Ceremony, Ms. Dorothy Grant was praised by the many dignitaries at the ceremony for the countless hours of work she has given to the city of Fontana and to the Fontana Unified School District.  She was presented with certificates of appreciation, plaques for her contribution to the community and accolades from all those in attendance.

The Grant Elementary School band and choir performed throughout the Dedication Ceremony.  The choir sang a song about volunteerism written by vocal music teacher Steven Flynn specifically for the occasion.

After the Dedication Ceremony, a small oak tree was planted in the school's garden in honor of Ms. Grant.  The garden, featuring a waterfall and an array of flowers, was created by the students of Grant Elementary School.

Grant Elementary School opened in Fall of 2004.  The school has an outstanding technology program that features a teacher computer and student computer lab in every classroom.  Teachers and students have access to and incorporate this technology in their daily communication and instructional activities.

The spirit of volunteerism and the obvious affection and high esteem for Ms. Grant was felt by all that were present at the Dedication Ceremony.
