The Fontana High School Madrigals have a long history of excellence and their recent gold award winning performance
at the 25th Heritage Music
Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada was proof that they are only getting
better.
Choral groups come from all over the United States to compete in the
prestigious Heritage Music Festival. This was the second year the Fohi
Madrigals participated in the competition and the second year that they have
received a superior rating (a score of 90 or higher out of a possible 100) and
gold plaque. This year they were also named top choral group in the
competition with the highest scores and the highest recommendation from the
judges.
On the strength of this performance, the Madrigals have been invited to
participate in the Heritage Festival of Gold in San Francisco. The
Heritage Festival of Gold is an elite competition in which only choirs that have
received a superior rating and gold plaque are invited to take part.
According to Jennifer Esquivel, Fontana High School vocal music teacher, cost
of participation in the festival is very expensive. It was $500 per
student for the competition in Las Vegas, and cost for the San Francisco
competition next year will be twice that amount. Needless to say, the Madrigals
will be doing a lot of fundraising.
FUSD is very proud of the Fohi Madrigals and their accomplishments.
Said Fontana High School teacher Lynn Beal, who shared in the chaperoning duties
for the Las Vegas competition, "I have never been more proud to be associated
with any group on the Fohi campus! You couldn't ask for a better group to
serve as goodwill ambassadors for the Fontana Unified School District."
