Earthquake Shakes Inland Empire
A 4.9-magnitude earthquake centered two miles northeast of
Yucaipa struck at 1:53 p.m on June 16, 2005. The quake near the San Andreas
Fault was followed by nearly two dozen smaller aftershocks, ranging from 1.4 to
3.5 in magnitude, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. (Information
updated 6/16/05, 4:00 p.m.)
A ll
schools are equipped with earthquake valves which automatically shut off in the
event of a major earthquake. This is to prevent gas leaks which may cause a
fire.
- M & O will be visiting each site to check
earthquake valves. If necessary, they will reset the valve.
- If you smell a gas odor or have any
significant damage to your site, contact Risk Management.
- Please have a custodian or a designee from
your site check for structural damage.
This might be a good time to reread the
April 2005 Safety Bulletin on earthquake preparedness!
