FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a
multinational non-profit organization, that aspires to transform culture, making
science, math, engineering, and technology as cool for kids as sports are today.
The FIRST Robotics is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professional and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an
intense and competitive way.
Fontana High School
competed in the FIRST Robotics Southern California Regional Competition in Los
Angeles on March 31-April 2, 2005. Students were given 42 days to build a full-size robot that had to pick up
triangular shaped objects and stack them, utilizing industry mentors, teachers,
and mathematical applications. The competitions are high-tech
spectator sporting events, the result of lots of focused brainstorming,
real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines.
This was Fohi's first time participating in this event and they placed 32nd out
of 52 teams.
