Twenty-nine students from San Bernardino County schools will advance to the
54rd annual California State Science Fair on May 23-24 in Los Angeles after
receiving top honors at the 2005 Inland Area Science and Engineering Fair at the
National Orange Show. Fontana Unified School District had 32 medal winners
in the competition and gold medal winner Christopher Raguse, a 6th grade student
at Fontana Middle School, will advance to the state competition. (Click

During the four-county regional fair held April 19-20, students received
gold, silver and bronze medals, with the top two winners in each category
selected to participate at the state level. Individual and group projects
were judged in 19 categories of science—from microbiology to zoology, math and
physics to electronics, and consumer sciences to earth sciences. Only
winners in the junior and senior divisions advance to the state competition.
At the state science fair, approximately 900 students in grades 6-12 from 350
schools across the state will compete for awards totaling more than $50,000.
