2004-2005 Teachers of the Year

At the June 1, 2005, meeting of the Board of Education, the 2004-2005 Site Teachers of the Year were recognized for their outstanding work and dedication on behalf of the students of Fontana.  From this exceptional group of teachers, Yolanda Mendoza, Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, announced the 2004-2005 FUSD Teacher of the Year, Theresa Pennington.

Theresa has been with the Fontana Unified School District for six years as a second grade teacher at Live Oak Elementary School.  During this time she has demonstrated a true commitment to the education of her students.  She keeps her students motivated and participating in classroom activities by following this simple philosophy:  If you make learning fun, the students will learn.

"I believe that in order to develop life long learners, I must give my students experiences in more than just reading and math," said Theresa.  "Through integrating the curriculum with hands-on experiences my students learn the 'why' of things.  I want my students to care about the world around them because they are part of it and can make a difference.  We are preparing our students for the future and school can teach much more."

Theresa was nominated for Teacher of the Year by her then principal, Oscar Dueñas (now Director of Core Curriculum K-5).  In his recommendation he stated, "Proof of Miss Pennington's abilities and strengths are demonstrated through her students.  Every year, Miss Pennington has been able to raise students' test scores by making students aware of the standards and ensuring they know what skills and strategies they need to master those standards."

The Fontana Unified School District is committed to recognizing excellence in the teaching profession.  We possess a great number of highly skilled, motivated, and dedication professionals who deserve to have their achievements recognized.  Congratulations to Theresa Pennington, the 2004-2005 FUSD Teacher of the Year, and to all the outstanding Site Teachers of the Year.
