FUSD's Nancy Jarman-Dunn Named CASC's 2006 Counselor of the Year
The California Association of School
Counselors has named Sequoia Middle School's Nancy Jarman-Dunn as their 2006
Counselor of the Year.
Nancy Jarman-Dunn has 19 years of experience as a middle school counselor in
the Fontana Unified School District. She was a junior high Special
Education teacher for 7 years. Nancy is also the Program Coordinator and a counselor educator
for the PPS School Counseling Credential Program at the University of
California, Riverside Extension Program.
Sequoia Middle School received their SPARC, Best in the West award
in 2006, and
is the only middle school in the nation to receive the ASCA RAMP
(Recognized ASCA Model Program) status in 2005. The school counseling program
was also awarded the California Golden Bell Award in 2005 and will be highlighted
in an upcoming school counseling textbook.
Nancy served on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Peer Programs for 8
years. Nancy has presented at state and national conferences, including: American
School Counseling Association, National Peer Helpers Association, California
Association of School Counselors, California Activity Director Association,
California Association of Peer Programs, and the California School Counseling
Research Summit. She contributed to the writing of the Los Angeles County
Office of Education, publication "Getting Ready for Middle School" transition
guide.
Nancy gives credit for the success of her school counseling program to the
support and encouragement of her administrators, staff and students.
