On February 17, the Fontana High School Virtual Business
Program competed in the 5th Annual Southern California
Trade Fair in San Diego. High school students from all over the state showcased their virtual products
and services at the Trade Fair, which was sponsored by Virtual Enterprise of
California. Out of the 60 participating high schools, Fohi placed in the
top three in web design for the second year in a row.
A virtual enterprise is a simulated business that is set-up and run by
students to prepare them for working in a real environment. Students
conduct business transactions via the Internet with schools internationally.
Fohi started its first Virtual Enterprise six years ago. They partnered
with Kaiser Permanente to offer virtual health insurance to other virtual
enterprises. (Click here to view the Fohi
Virtual Business website.)
Fohi's Virtual Business Program has received numerous awards at trade fairs
and competitions. In 2004, they were a recipient of the
California School Board Association's Golden Bell Award.
On February 24, the Fohi Virtual Business students attended a training and
"shadowed" Kaiser Permanente employees at the Pasadena facility. Later
this month they will compete against 80 high
schools in the 1st Annual Long Beach Virtual Trade Fair.
