Fontana Students, Teachers Rev Up for Read Across America

Students in the Fontana Unified School District will join millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the ninth annual National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day on March 2, 2006.

Read Across America Day, which falls on Dr. Seuss's 102nd birthday, expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.

NEA estimates that last year almost 45 million children and adults celebrated the job of reading on Dr. Suess's birthday.  This year they hope to bring a nation of readers together to really drive home the message about the importance of reading. 

To honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, many of our schools are holding Read Across America activities.  Here are just a few of the ways our schools are celebrating:

		Oak Park Elementary School "We plan a book characters dress-up parade for the students and Assistant Principal Chris Ridge and I will dress-up and hold assemblies and read to every grade level throughout the day." - Dr. Jinane Annous, Principal
		Randall Pepper Elementary School "We have Read Across America celebration planned on 3/1.  Families will be invited to the school from 6-7:30 pm to listen to guest readers from the community, participate in a craft activity, and receive information and support with reading to their children." - Tammy Fleming, Reading First Coach
