During the four-county regional fair held April 18-19 in San
Bernardino, more than 75,000 fourth- through 12th-grade students from Riverside,
Inyo, Mono and San Bernardino (RIMS) counties competed for approximately 700
slots available to students at the regional fair. Students received gold,
silver and bronze medals, with the top two winners in each category selected to
participate at the state level. Only gold medal winners in the junior and
senior divisions advance to the state competition. Twenty-nine students
from San Bernardino County schools will advance to the 55th annual California
State Science Fair after receiving top honors at the 2006 Inland Area Science
and Engineering Fair at the National Orange Show.
Thirty-one students from
Fontana Unified School District participated in this year’s fair, along
with students from Adelanto, Apple Valley Unified, Barstow Unified, Bear Valley
Unified, Chino Valley Unified, Colton Joint Unified, Etiwanda, Helendale,
Hesperia Unified, Lucerne Valley Unified, Morongo Unified, Redlands Unified,
Rialto Unified, San Bernardino City Unified, Snowline Joint Unified, Upland
Unified, Victor Valley Union High and Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified. The
Academy for Academic Excellence in Apple Valley will also took part, as well as
a number of private schools in San Bernardino County.
Although the Fontana Unified School District did not have any
gold medal winners that will advance to the state competition, we did have
several silver and bronze medal winners.
