Mary Ann Workman Writing Showcase
The Fontana Unified School District will be
holding its annual Mary Ann Workman Writing Showcase on April 11, 2006.
Public Viewing of student writing will be from 5-7 p.m. in the A.B. Miller High
School gym.
Teachers from Fontana elementary, middle and high
schools have submitted samples of their students' best writing after having been
judged by grade level and category. Using the grade-level content
standards, judges look for
creativity, clarity, and variety of written expression, and the presence of an
original and distinctive author's voice.
The FUSD Board of Education renamed their Annual
Writing Showcase in honor of Mary Ann Workman, after she passed away last year.
Mrs. Workman taught in the Fontana Unified School District from 1967 until her
retirement in 1996. Throughout those years, she taught at Juniper, Maple,
and South Tamarind Elementary Schools and was a pioneering force behind the
District's Writing Showcase.
