Fontana Students to Attend Boys State
Three FUSD high school
students will be getting a first-hand lesson in government. American
Legion Post 262 is sending Bryan Bennet of A.B. Miller High School and Darrell
Comminey and Jonathan Arana of Fontana High School to the 70th session of the
American Legion California Golden Boys State Program on June 16-23 in
Sacramento.
Bryan, Darrell, and Jonathan
were selected based on their outstanding qualities of leadership, character,
scholarship, loyalty, and service to their school.
At Boys State, the boys will learn about the rights
and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The
training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments
operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include
legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations,
assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
American Legion Boys State is among the most
respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high
school students. It is a participatory program where each participant
becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a similar program for young ladies called
Girls State.
