County History Day Competition to be Held at A.B. Miller
Approximately
280 students representing twenty-five schools in San Bernardino County will compete in three divisions at the 2007 County History Day event
on Saturday, March 24, at Fontana's A.B. Miller High School.
This year’s theme for History Day is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” The competition,
which will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m., has three divisions:
Elementary (grades 4-5), Junior (grades 6-8), and Senior (grades 9-12).
There are 145 entries in all the divisions, representing nine county school
districts and three private schools.
History Day gives students an opportunity to
compete in a variety of categories on a historical theme. The students'
work is judged by historians, educators, and other professionals in related
fields. The Elementary Division only has one category of competition,
posters. In addition to the poster category, the Junior and Senior
divisions also have exhibit, documentary, performance, website, and research
paper categories. The awards ceremony for the county competition is
scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on March 24.
In addition the Fontana Unified School District,
the following school district are participating: Apple Valley, Chaffey
Joint Union High, Chino Valley, Colton Joint Unified, Hesperia, Morongo, San
Bernardino City, and Upland. Private schools Sacred heart and Holy Rosary
Academy will also participate.
Winners at the county competition advance to the
State History Day, which will be held in Long Beach April 26-29. State winners
will advance to national competition
in Maryland in June.
