Fontana Triumphs at County History Day
Forty San Bernardino County projects were crowned
champions at the 16th Annual History Day competition on March 24 at A.B. Miller
High School. There were 145 entries, representing nine county school
district and two private schools. Fontana Unified School District had the most county group and
individual champions with sixteen.
History Day gives students a chance to compete in a variety of categories on
a historical theme. This year's theme was "Triumph and Tragedy in History:
People, Ideas and Events." There were three divisions: Elementary
(Grades 4-5), Junior (Grades 6-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12). The Elementary
Division has only one category of competition, posters. In addition to the
poster category, the Junior and Senior Divisions also have exhibit, documentary,
performance, Web site, and research paper categories.
The individual and group champions advance to the
State History Day competition in Long Beach on April 26-29.
