Get Ready to Spring Forward!
Important Reminder: Daylight Saving Time
begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 11.
Don't
take a chance on being late to school or work on Monday morning. Be sure
to change your alarm clock this Sunday! In spring, clocks spring forward from 1:59
a.m. to 3:00 a.m. This year Daylight Saving Time is coming two weeks
earlier on the second Sunday in March.
The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called
"Summer Time" in many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight.
We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from
the morning to the evening.
Daylight Saving Time is not observed in Hawaii,
American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Arizona.
However, the Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, even
in Arizona, due to its large size and location in three states
New Changes in Daylight Saving Time
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush
signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time
change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST
will begin on the second Sunday of March and end the first Sunday of November.
The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress.
Congress retains the right to revert the Daylight Saving Time back to the 2005
time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.
