The California
Senate recently confirmed Fontana Middle School teacher Lillian Tynes Perry to
the Commission on Teacher Credentialing by a unanimous vote of 37-0.
Commissioner Perry was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and sworn
in on September 14, 2006, in Sacramento.
Commissioner Perry earned her B.A. in Psychology from Lake
Forest College, and a Masters in Teaching from Northwestern University (both in
Illinois). She holds a California Clear credential in Multiple Subjects
(Preschool, K-12, Adult) from California State University in Los Angeles, and
has completed post graduate work through UCLA and the University of Phoenix.
Commissioner Perry has held tenure in three major public
school districts: Evanston School District 65 in Illinois, Los Angeles
Unified School District, and the Fontana Unified School District.
Additionally, she worked as Honors Chorus Director in the Upland Unified School
District, and has taught ESL for Chaffey Adult School in Ontario.
In 2000, Commissioner Perry received Teacher of the Year
recognition, and is a Highly Qualified educator under the federally mandated
law, No Child Left Behind.
In 2003, Commissioner Perry founded the PhiLill Foundation, a
501(c)(3) which adopted the Fontana Middle School, where she has taught for the
past 10 years.
Commission Perry, herself a product of the Chicago Public
Schools, has taught since 1972. She is the mother of four public school
students, including one in community college, and has been married for 22 years
to Phil Perry.
