At
their June 4, 2008 meeting, the FUSD Board of Education approved
naming the newly completed stadium at Henry J. Kaiser High School
after the school's first principal, Bryan Malloy.
Born in New Orleans, Mr.
Malloy spent much of his childhood in West Covina. A star wrestler at
Edgewood High School, he continued wrestling in his years at Cal Poly Pomona,
where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology. In 1984, he made the move
to the Fontana Unified School District, taking a job as dean of students at
Sequoia Junior High. Four years later, he helped start Citrus High, an
alternative school, from scratch, becoming its first principal.
In 1998, Mr. Malloy again
took the challenge of heading up a brand new school, this time as principal of
Kaiser High.
Mr. Malloy lost his battle with cancer on July 14, 2006, and was survived by
his wife, Mary Malloy, a counselor
at Summit High School, and their children. He is still missed by both
colleagues and students who remember him as someone who truly cared about kids
and had a passion for life. In fact, it was the Kaiser High staff and
students that spearheaded the petition to name the school's new stadium after
Malloy.
A dedication ceremony for the new "Bryan E. Malloy Stadium" is being planned
for the first football game of the season. Check back at this website for
details.
