On May 2, 2008,
A.B. Miller High School hosted its second annual Rebel Digital Film Fest to
celebrate the art and entertainment of it's filmmakers. The festival
screened a wide spectrum of student filmmaking, including documentaries, short
films, broadcast news segments, on-scene reporting, and other experimental
student work.
This year introduced the BluDomain Excellence in
Cinematography Award, sponsored by the web-based company BluDomain. David
Chaidez was the winner of this award and received a $1000 scholarship, as well
as a free website.
Awards were also presented to students in the following
categories:
- The Christine Williams Scholarship for
Excellence in Filmmaking: David Chaidez
- The Mike Demmer Award for Excellence in Video
Production: Shanna Newton and Tonia Hoyt
- The Silver Rebel for Achievement in Video
Editing: Jonathan Koops
- The Tommy Award for Excellence in Commercial or
PSA Production: Chynna Miller and Daniel Talbot
- Best Live Action Short: Christian
Delgadillo, Jonathan Koopes, and Nathan McCook
- Best Documentary Short: Brenda Lopez,
Catherine Martinez, Sarah Kolvas, Justin Jackson, Miriam Carillo,
Ann Iniguez
- Best Broadcast News Segment: Karina
Navarro and Corey Kern
The Rebel Productions program at A.B. Miller prepares students
to participate in a world increasingly shaped by moving pictures. Through
introductory and advanced courses that offer a foundation for understanding
video, the program teaches students to not only create and analyze moving images
but to develop their voices through the art of video production.
