MaryAnn Workman Writing Showcase

The Fontana Unified School District will be holding its annual MaryAnn Workman Writing Showcase on Saturday, April 26, 2008.  Public Viewing of student writing will be from 10 am to 12:30 pm at Truman Middle School.

Teachers from Fontana elementary, middle and high schools have submitted samples of their students' best writing after having been judged by grade level and category.  Using the grade-level content standards, judges look for creativity, clarity, and variety of written expression, and the presence of an original and distinctive author's voice.

Who was MaryAnn Workman?

MaryAnn Workman was a Teacher in the Fontana Unified School District from 1967 until her retirement in 1996.  Throughout those years, she taught at Juniper, Maple, and South Tamarind Elementary Schools and was one of the original leaders in establishing the Writing Showcase, now in its 18th year.  After Mrs. Workman passed away in 2005, the FUSD Board of Education renamed the Annual Writing Showcase in her honor.  MaryAnn Workman was a dedicated and caring teacher who touched the lives of many students during her tenure in Fontana.  She is remembered with great warmth and fondest by both her students and colleagues.
