Fontana Adult School

We are excited to welcome you to the Fall 2008 season of learning!  The Fontana Adult School offers a wide variety of evening and weekend educational classes.  Whether you are interested in improving your computer skills or job performance, or just relaxing with a creative arts class, we have something for everyone.  Classes start Monday, August 11.

California High School Exit Exam

Beginning with the Class of 2006, all public school students are required to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CaHSEE) to earn a high school diploma.  Fontana Adult School offers Test Prep for both parts of the exam, English/Language Arts and Math.


This class prepares immigrants to take the written and oral portions of the Citizenship Test.  Topics include United States government and history, test-taking and interview skills.  This class is taught in English only.

Community Based English Tutoring

Community Based English Tutoring (CBET) is a program that provides English language instruction to parents and members of the community who pledge to provide English language tutoring to students who are designated English Language Learners (ELL).  Class meetings are tailored to accommodate parents' busy schedules.  They are conveniently offered biweekly both mornings and evenings throughout the FUSD schools.  Free babysitting services are provided for children three and older.

Computer Classes

We offer a variety of computer classes for both absolute beginners and students with some computer experience who want to increase their skill level or learn a new software program.  Classes are available in Beginning Keyboarding, Beginning Computer, Intermediate Computer, or Excel Plus.


English as a Second Language (ESL)

Want to learn English?  We can help!  Come by the Adult School Office for an appointment for Orientation and Registration.  After you learn English, you can take classes to become a United States citizen and/or get a High School diploma.  Classes offered weekdays and on Saturday.

Fine Arts

Art enriches all our lives!  Take Art Appreciation or learn a new craft.  Courses are available in basic sewing, basic quilting techniques, and stained glass making.  Some of our classes may have an additional materials fee.

General Education Development (GED)

Passing the GED Test earns you a State and nationally recognized High School Equivalency Certificate.  Take the GED Tests or prepare for the tests with a GED Test Preparation Course.  A free semester-long course teaches test taking strategies and reviews each of the subject areas on the test.  GED Prep is available in both English and Spanish.  The battery of tests are given Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and may be taken in English or Spanish. 

High School Diploma Classes

Want your High School diploma?  We're here for you.  Bring official transcripts and we'll get you going on earning your High School diploma.  Classes are free for those seeking a diploma.  Classes are also open to those who just want to take classes.  Fontana Adult School offers:  English 1-4, Algebra Readiness, Algebra 1, Geometry, Business Calculations, Earth Science, Biological Sciences, U.S. History, U.S. Government, World History, and Economics.

Law Enforcement 

New this semester is the Introduction to Law Enforcement class for students who are interested in California Law and the role of Police, Sheriff, Correctional, Parole and Probation Officers.  Participants will learn about processing Criminal Actions, develop and understanding of Career Pathways in Legal, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security positions.  Students will learn about, hiring requirements, procedures, types of offences and processing of criminal actions by various law enforcement agencies. which is designed for students who want to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice.  Class will be taught by a former Los Angeles County Sheriff and a former Baldwin Park Police Officer.


Medical Careers:  Certification Preparation Classes

You can prepare for a rewarding medical career at Fontana Adult School.  Classes include:
  • Certified Nurse Assistant - Hands-on training, communication/interpersonal skills, patient care skills in hospitals and extended care facilities, patient's rights, and emergency procedures.
  • Clinical Medical Assistant - Minor surgery procedures, introduction to medical terminology usage, back office skills (injections, venipunture, EKG, lab procedures), pharmacology-administer medication, dosage calculations, conversions.
  • Administrative Medical Assistant - Administrative skills, medical terminology, and insurance/billing/coding.
  • Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy law and practice, dosage calculation, maintain client records, collect and coordinate billing, and assist with mixing and packaging prescriptions.

Traffic School

Want to wipe out an unwanted traffic ticket from your DMV record?  At Fontana Adult School's traffic violators class you’ll pick-up essential defensive driving skills and keep your insurance rates from rising.  Classes are available in the evenings or on Saturdays.  Also available in Spanish.

Vocations and Trades:  Welding

This course introduces students to various welding techniques.  The course is especially designed for students who have a career interest in the welding field.  The course will include classroom and practical instruction in arc, oxy-acetylene, metal inert gas, tungsten inert gas welding and cutting methods.  Students that achieve competency in this course have an excellent opportunity for entry-level employment in the welding field and the ability to continue their education and training at a post-secondary institution.
