FUSD Student Advances to State Science Fair

During the 27th annual Inland Area Science and Engineering Fair on April 14-15, 2009, more than 750 fourth through twelfth grade students from Riverside, Inyo, Mono and  San Bernardino (RIMS) counties competed for a chance to go to the State competition.  Students received gold, silver and bronze medals, with the gold winning Junior and Senior Division students in each category selected to participate at the state level.  Fifteen individual and eight teams from the Fontana Unified School District participated in the regional fair at the National Orange Show, and one of those students, Bryon Scott a sixth grade student at Almeria Middle School, will be advancing to State.

Students participated in three divisions: Elementary (fourth- and fifth-graders), Junior (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders) and Senior (9th- through 12th-graders).  Individual and group projects were judged in 19 categories of science - from microbiology to zoology, math and physics to electronics, and consumer sciences to earth sciences.  Although only Junior and Senior Division gold medal winners advance to State, Fontana had several students win silver and bronze medals, and even a gold medal in the elementary division.

Congratulations to all of these young scientists for their hard work and a job well done.
