County History Day Competition to be Held at Summit
Approximately
200 students representing 19 schools throughout San Bernardino County will compete in three divisions at the County History Day event
on Saturday, March 21, at Fontana's Summit High School. Fontana Unified
School District has eighteen entries competing in the County competition (see
list of Fontana entries below, including pictures of some of their projects at
our District History Day competition).
This year’s theme for History Day is “The
Individual in History.” The competition, which will begin with
registration at 7:30 a.m., has three divisions: Elementary (grades 4-5),
Junior (grades 6-8), and Senior (grades 9-12). There are 126 entries in
all the divisions, representing 10 county school districts and one private
school. History Day gives students an opportunity to
compete in a variety of categories on a historical theme. The students'
work is judged by historians, educators, and other professionals in related
fields. The Elementary Division only has one category of competition,
posters. In addition to the poster category, the Junior and Senior
divisions also have exhibit, documentary, performance, website, and research
paper categories.
The awards ceremony for the county competition is
scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. on March 21. Champions of the respective
divisions advance to the California History Day event in Sacramento from April
30 to May 3.
