Grant Elementary Receives Academic Achievement Award
Congratulations to Dorothy Grant Elementary School for
earning the California Title I Academic Achievement Award. Grant was one
of twenty-two schools in Riverside and San Bernardino counties and among 200
statewide selected for the honor which is given only to schools receiving
federal Title I funds. The State notified the schools back in December and
they were honored at a special award
ceremony during the annual California Title I Conference in Anaheim on April
27-28, 2009.
Schools must demonstrate that all of their students are
making significant progress toward proficiency on California's academic
standards tests. In addition, students with socioeconomic disadvantages
must have doubled achievement scores set for them for two consecutive years.
"These schools deserve high praise for improving student
achievement," State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell.
"They have addressed barriers to student success and were able to create a
school environment conducive to learning. In congratulate the teachers,
staff, paraprofessionals, parents, and students who all worked hard this past
year to improve. I hold these schools up as models for their success in
ensuring that all students without regard to race, economic status, or physical
or mental challenges are given the kind of education that allows them to achieve
to their fullest potential."
