A Message from our Superintendent
Dear Fontana Family,
As many of you are aware, the budget cuts the State has imposed on Fontana
Unified have hit every school and department in the district. I have been asked
several questions which I thought might be helpful to answer publicly.
Will my teacher be here the rest of this school year?
Yes. All teachers will remain employed until June 30, 2009.
How are teachers chosen to be laid off?
Teachers are determined by date of hire, credential or program. That is the law
we must follow.
What will class sizes be if we lose teachers?
| Grade Level |
Currently |
Next Year |
| Kindergarten, Grades 4-5 |
29 |
30 |
| Grades 1-3 |
20 |
30 |
| Grades 7-8 |
29 |
30 |
| Grades 9-12 |
27 |
28 |
*The above numbers reflect the proposed changes to the staffing ratio.
Class sizes will vary depending on school and enrollment. The Bargaining
Unit contract allows teachers to be compensated for students over the maximum
target ratio. Please refer to Article 15 of Collective Bargaining Unit
agreement.
In the weeks ahead, as we face the hard decisions that must be made I will do my
best to answer your questions and address your concerns.

Cali L. Olsen-Binks
Superintendent
