At the January 13, 2010, Board Meeting, the eight Fontana elementary schools that
attained 800 or higher on the Academic Performance Index (API) were honored. Principals and school
representatives were on hand to receive a special flag to commemorate their
schools' achievement. The flags can be flown on their school's flagpole,
below the United States and California state flags.
Our "Eight Great" 800 elementary schools are Sierra Lakes (851), Mango (815),
Grant (811), Shadow Hills (808), Oleander (808), Hemlock (807), Primrose (807),
and Canyon Crest (804).
As Board President Gus Hawthorn stated, "It really takes a concerted effort
between students, staff, parents, administrators - everybody at every school."
Interim Superintendent Oscar Dueñas agreed, "What you are doing out there,
especially in these hard times, is amazing. To have so many schools at 800 plus,
it makes me proud to work in Fontana."
