Inland Science, Engineering Fair Scheduled for April 13-14
Innovative students will put their projects on display at the 2010 RIMS Inland
Area Science and Engineering Fair on April 13-14 at the National Orange Show
Center. More than 75,000 fourth through twelfth grade students competed for
more than 750 slots available to students from Riverside, Inyo, Mono and San
Bernardino counties. There will be 43 individual projects and 28 team
projects representing Fontana Unified School District in the county-wide competition.
Awards will be presented on April 14, to students in the elementary division from 5:30-7 pm. and to students in the junior and senior divisions from 7:30-9 pm in the National Orange Show's Citrus Building. The public is invited to view the exhibits April 14, from 9:30 am to 9 pm. About 80 winners in the junior and senior divisions will advance to the California State Science Fair on May 17-18.
Individual and group projects fall into 19 categories of science - from microbiology to zoology, math and physics to electronics, and consumer science to earth science. Each project is judged by a team of representatives from education, industry and science communities, as well as other members of the public. Criteria include research knowledge, use of the scientific method, knowledge of the subject, writing strategies and the creation of original data.
The San Bernardino County school districts participating in this year's fair are Adelanto, Apple Valley Unified, Barstow Unified, Bear Valley Unified, Chino Valley Unified, Colton Joint Unified, Etiwanda, Fontana Unified, Helendale Hesperia Unified, Morongo Unified, Redlands Unified, Rialto Unified, San Bernardino City Unified, Snowline Joint Unified, Trona Joint Unified, Upland Unified and Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified.
