Fontana Association for Bilingual Educators Hosts Annual Recognition Dinner
The Fontana Association for Bilingual Educators
(FABE) held its Annual Recognition Dinner on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the new
Garden Hilton Inn in Fontana. FUSD Board Member, BarBara Chavez was
the keynote speaker at the event. FABE recognized school
administrators, paraprofessionals, and community members for their service and dedication to
the students and parents in the Fontana Unified School District.

Anita Mares introduces Cristina Nievas, Administrator of the Year, and fellow nominees Cali Olsen-Binks and Terry Abernathy.
Nancy Banales introduces Blanca McGuthrie, winner of the Cesar Chavez Lifetime Service Award.

Bilingual Aide of A.B. Miller High School; Claudia
Arellano, Instructional Technology Specialist III at Oleander Elementary
School; Vernoica Cerda, School Community Liaison of Citrus High
School; Christina Rizk, Librarian at Tokay Elementary School; Lucille
Lucero, Bilingual Aide at Locust Elementary School; Eustacia (Stacy) Moreno,
Secretary at Mango Elementary School; and Brenda Meek, Bilingual Aide of the
School of Language Development.
Nominees for Parent/Community Leader of the Year included
Stella Titus of Oleander Elementary School, Alma Loza of A.B. Miller High
School, Jose Davila of Early Education, Luis Vaquera of Mango Elementary
School, Eduardo Valencia of Oleander Elementary School, and Maria Carmen
Rendon of the School of Language Development.
FABE is the Fontana chapter of the California
Association for Bilingual Education (CABE). CABE is a non-profit
organization which promotes bilingual education and quality educational
experience for all students in California. CABE has over 7000 members
with over 60 chapters, all working to promote equity and students for
students with diverse cultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds.
The Fontana chapter was organized in 1990 and has over 200 members.
FABE is one of the most active CABE chapters in the state.
