Masonry Students Build Bench in Honor of Late Teachers
A special ceremony was held on March 31 to dedicate a bench
in honor of the late A.B. Miller High School Masonry Teacher, Bob Freeman.
His students designed and built the bench, made of brick, cement, tile and embedded with
stones that he collected with his wife, Shelly, on their trips to the
beach and river.
Mr. Freeman passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.
He was an extremely popular teacher at A.B. Miller and was named Teacher of the
Year in 2004. Mr. Freeman was honored by the Masonry Industry Training
Association last year for his contributions to the industry and to vocational
students. Many of his masonry students having received such a good
foundation in their craft while under his guidance have continued in the
industry after graduation.
"He would have loved it," said Mrs. Freeman who attended the Dedication
Ceremony along with Mr. Freeman's brother, Bill.
