Mango Students Kick-Up Their Heels to Celebrate Their Success
On September 24, the hardworking students at Mango
Elementary School who scored 350 or above on
the California Standardized Test (CST) got to enjoy the fruit of their labors at
a special DJ party.
The test results from the 2008-09 school year were just released and Mango
Elementary School has much of which to be proud. They were one of FUSD's
"Great Eight" that scored over 800 on the API. Principal Sara Najarro
decided to take advantage of the DJ Party the school won as a result of last
year's attendance competition (they tied with Oleander Elementary School) and
use it to treat the students who scored 350 or above on the CST in math or
language arts. She even invited last year's 5th graders who
have moved on to middle school to come back and join in the fun.
The students had a great time. Although they mostly "hung out" in
little groups on the sidelines, they would occasionally "bust a move" for just a
moment or two. DJ Goodtimes (Luis Mendoza and his son, Luis, Jr.) really got the action going when he invited
the kids to join in a "Dance Off" competition to Michael Jackson's "Billie
Jean." The "Moonwalk" seems to be making a comeback in a big way - who
knew?
