At the July 15, 2009 Board Meeting, the Fontana Unified School District
announced Mark Olay as the new Athletic Director at Kaiser High School.
Mr. Olay has been the Offensive Line Coach at Kaiser High School since 2000,
and coached Golf from 2000 to 2007. Before coming to Kaiser, he coached JV
softball and wrestling at Sequoia Middle School (1992-99), (offensive line)
football at A.B. Miller High School (1991), (defensive back) football at
Chaffey High School (1990), and (offensive line) football at Fontana High
School (1981-85). From 1972-88, Mr. Olay coached football at high schools in
southern California, as well as in his home state of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Olay attended Slippery Rock University, just 50 minutes north of downtown
Pittsburgh. Slippery Rock is renowned for its stellar athletic programs and
it prepared Mr. Olay for his successful career as both a coach and athletic
director. Mr. Olay is married to his lovely wife, Debbie, a former FUSD
staff member. When he isn't working, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Although he looks forward to starting his new position, Mr. Olay is
pretty low-key in expressing his excitement. He said, “A good athletic
director is a ‘behind the scenes’-kind of guy. If you were successful, ten
years later people won’t remember your name. I don’t want to upstage the
coaches.”
“Kaiser is delighted to welcome Mark Olay as Athletic Director,” said Terry
Abernathy, Principal of Kaiser High School. “His commitment to excellence,
tremendous enthusiasm and passion will ensure success for all Kaiser High
School student athletes.
