Grant Elementary Earns 2010 Title I Academic Achievement Award
On
Wednesday, February 10, 2010 State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack
O’Connell, personally called Dorothy Grant Elementary School to inform them that
they had been identified as a recipient of the 2010 Title I Academic Achievement
Award. After congratulating them, he thanked them for all the school’s
hard work at meeting the challenge to close the achievement gap.
Principal Chris Ridge shared that he thought someone was pulling his leg when
the call came into the school office and he was informed that Jack O’Connell was
on hold waiting to speak with him. Mr. Ridge was quick to give credit to
his staff and thanked them for making a difference in the lives of students.
“We are proud of all of our schools in Fontana and their continued growth,”
stated Cali Olsen-Binks, Superintendent of Fontana Unified School District. “ We
are especially pleased with Dorothy Grant Elementary and their accomplishments
over the past couple of years.”
This is the second year in a row that the school has won the award. The school
accomplished this by meeting all state and federal targets for student
achievement as measured by state tests which are administered each spring.
Additionally, the school doubled its growth target school-wide and for
socio-economically disadvantaged students.
Statewide, 238 schools were selected to receive the award. These schools will be
honored at a reception and banquet at the Disneyland Hotel on April 21, 2010.
