Grant Elementary Earns Academic Achievement Award

Congratulations to Dorothy Grant Elementary School for earning the California
Title I Academic Achievement Award. Grant was one of fourteen schools in
San Bernardino county and among 238 statewide selected for the
honor which is given only to schools receiving federal Title I funds. The State
notified the schools back in February and they were honored at a special award
ceremony during the annual California Title I Conference at the Disneyland Hotel
on April 21, 2010.
“We are proud of all of our schools in Fontana and their continued growth,”
stated Cali Olsen-Binks, Superintendent of Fontana Unified School District. “ We
are especially pleased with Dorothy Grant Elementary and their accomplishments
over the past couple of years.”
This is the second year in a row that the school has won the award. The
school accomplished this by meeting all state and federal targets for student
achievement as measured by state tests which are administered each spring.
Additionally, the school doubled its growth target school-wide and for
socio-economically disadvantaged students.
"These schools deserve high praise for improving student achievement," State
Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell. "They have addressed
barriers to student success and were able to create a school environment
conducive to learning. In congratulate the teachers, staff, paraprofessionals,
parents, and students who all worked hard this past year to improve. I hold
these schools up as models for their success in ensuring that all students
without regard to race, economic status, or physical or mental challenges are
given the kind of education that allows them to achieve to their fullest
potential."
