At
the February 3, 2010 Board Meeting, Fontana High School's Campus Security
Team was recognized for winning the first Proactive Campus Safety Contest.
Chad Barron, the District's
Surveillance Tech Specialist, who recently took over the supervision of
the Campus Security Officers, came up with the idea for a contest
between campuses. As Chief Bob Ratcliffe explained, "This is a
competition for campus safety and proactivity by the Campus Security
Officers. The competition (held throughout the month of January)
was broken into a point system: Every week if you did not have a
fight – a physical altercation – on your campus, you got awarded five
points. Every time you found contraband and you rid the campus of
contraband, you got five points." They were also awarded
points for rendering emergency medical aide to a student or staff
member.
"I will tell you that there were two campuses that really bought into
this," continued Chief Bob. "Mr. Mike Andrus at Summit High School
and Dr. Sergio Flores at Fontana High School decided that this was a
very serious issue and they got into a very heated competition.
However, Fohi pulled a hat trick on the last day and won the
competition."
Campus Security Officers Michael Arroyo, Alex Calderon, Arturo Camacho,
Andres Garcia, Wayne Landes were on hand to accept the plaque, along
with Dr. Flores and Marvin Atkins, Assistant Principal in charge of
School Security.
"These folks did a great job and they kept their campus safe, as they
always do, and they really solved a lot of issues," said Chief Bob.
"Hat off to all of you."
Chief Bob said he was planning on holding the Proactive Campus Security
Contest on a quarterly basis.
