At the February 17 Board of Education meeting, Melba Rey, Chairperson of the
Scholarship Committee, along with fellow members Don Lewis, Tonia Lewis, Yvonne
Williams, Tina Kalberg, Dorothy Grant, Jesse Armendrez, and Laura Marcha
acknowledged the Fontana Exchange Club Students of the Month and A.C.E. Award
Recipients.
The Fontana Exchange Club has been recognizing Fontana’s high school students
for over a decade. “Students of the month are selected by their teachers and
they are submitted to us on a monthly basis and we recognize them on a quarterly
basis,” explained Ms. Rey. “This year we will be recognizing them during the
School Board meetings. From this pool of Students of the Month, we pick two or
three students who have the best GPA among the nominees and we award them a
scholarship of $200 to $400 to assist them along their pathway to college.”
The Students of the Month for this quarter were:

Lopez - September, Barbie Hernandez - October, Chloe Wells - November, Ian
McMane - December, and Natalie Amador - January.

In addition to Student of the Month, the Fontana Exchange Club recognizes high
school students with the A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellent) Award. These
recipients are students who have made a dramatic change in their attitude and
performance something during their high school years, enabling the students to
overcome their adversities and prepare for graduation.
