Locust Elementary School
recently
kicked-off their "Pennies for the Playground Campaign" in an effort
raise money to
purchase new playground equipment.
The playground equipment at Locust is over 20 years-old and is in dire need of
replacement. "The monkey bars are metal and when it's hot, the students
can't play on them because they could get blisters," said Sandra Gray, Principal
of Locust Elementary School.
New playground equipment would cost approximately $30,000 - money that won't be
found in the district's budget anytime soon. The Locust Elementary School
PTA and staff decided to take matters into their own hands with a penny drive.
In order to to reach their goal of $30,000 (that's 3 million pennies), they are
asking members of the community to pitch-in. You won't have to give until
it hurts; just send them your unwanted pennies -
those pesky copper coins that weigh down pockets and purses. Of
course, larger donations will gladly be accepted as well.
Pennies can be dropped-off at the school office which is located at 7420 Locust
Avenue. The staff will tabulate the change and give monthly updates.
If you are interested in making a larger donation, please contact Sandra Gray or
Tina Vargas at (909) 357-5650.
