Harold Sullins to Receive FAME's 2010 Silver Rising Star Award
We are proud to announce that FUSD's
Food Service Director, Harold Sullins, will be honored with the Silver Rising Star Award by the National Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence (FAME) Award program.
He will receive the award at the FAME Award Ceremony to be held at the School
Nutrition Association's Child Nutrition Industry Conference later this month in
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Since coming to the Fontana Unified School District in 2008, Mr. Sullins has sought out competitive bids for milk and frozen foods. Through this process, he was able to achieve a savings of more than $400,000 for the district’s nutrition program. Additionally, Mr. Sullins placed on emphasis on food safety
by expanding national food safety training and certification to include all
kitchen operators.
Mr. Sullins is channeling profits and savings from the budget into food court renovation projects he hopes will improve the meal-time atmosphere in the district. He established Nutrition Advisory Councils to improve the nutrition education for students in the district. This program involves wellness workshops for students and parents as well as interactive “celebrity” chef demonstrations that entertain and inform students about healthy eating habits.
The Silver Rising Star Award is given to a school food service director who has less than three years of experience and whose contributions make a marked difference in the district’s child nutrition program. For 21 years the FAME Awards have honored school nutrition professionals who raise industry standards by stepping up to challenges within their school districts and communities. This prestigious program is sponsored by Basic American Foods, Schwan’s Food Service, Inc., and Tyson Foods, Inc.
