At the May 5, 2010 meeting of the Board of Education, the 2009-10 Site Teachers of the Year were recognized for their outstanding work and dedication on behalf of the students of Fontana.  From this exceptional group of teachers, Ms. Mendoza announced FUSD's 2009-10 Teacher of the Year, Rebecca Russell-Pastor of Ted Porter Elementary School.

Ms. Russell-Pastor is in her eighteenth year with the Fontana Unified School District.  She has been a presenter at the National, County, and District levels.  In 2000, she was Fontana's first recipient of National Board Certification and was the third recipient in San Bernardino County.  She is a certified trainer for Thinking Maps and Write From the Beginning.

She has been a resource to beginning teachers in our district, as well as seasoned teachers.  Ms. Russell-Pastor is always willing to give a hand and provide teachers with demo lessons.  She's not only a teacher for her student, but a teacher for other teachers.

"I am indeed surprised and honored by this award," said Ms. Russell-Pastor.  "It is such an honor to receive this recognition from the district where I began my career 25 years ago. I  have accumulated many student memories, teaching experiences and opportunities, incredible professional development, and shared expertise from wonderful Fontana teachers.  I share this with many who have made me a better teacher because I walked into their classroom or talked with them about our work with kids."
