At the August 18, 2010 meeting of the Fontana Unified School
District Board of Education, the Board approved Mr. Alejandro
Alvarez as the new Associate Superintendent of Business
Services.
Mr. Alvarez was born in East Los Angeles and grew up in the city
of Maywood, a small community in Los Angeles County. He attended
the University of California, Riverside where he earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology Law and Society. He continued his
education and received a Master’s in Education from Harvard
University and a Master’s in Administration from Azusa Pacific
University.
“I never thought about going into education until my third year
at UCR,” said he said. “I was asked to tutor incoming freshman
and found that I really enjoyed it.” Mr. Alvarez says that his
entire educational career has been here in Fontana. He began at
Tokay Elementary School, where he worked as a classroom teacher
for four years. He was soon promoted to Assistant Principal and
served at West Randall and Palmetto Elementary Schools for three
years and Principal at Poplar Elementary School for four years.
For the past three years, Mr. Alvarez has been the Director of
Certificated Human Resources.
Mr. Alvarez will be taking over the position left vacant after
the retirement of Dr. Richard Stedry at the end of the 2009-10
school year. “I plan on being the Associate Superintendent of
Business Services as long as the district is willing to keep
me,” he said.
“I am so pleased to announce Mr. Alvarez as Fontana’s new
Associate Superintendent of Business Services,” said
Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks. “He’s already shown that he’s a
proven leader in the various positions he has held at Fontana
Unified. I’m confident that he’s the right person to guide us
through any fiscal challenges that may come our way.”
