At a time when every dollar counts, the Fontana Unified School District
received a "really big check" from the Fontana Area Chamber of Commerce.
At the January 19, 2011 Board of Education Meeting, Jan Hudson, Board President
of the Fontana Area Chamber of Commerce,
presented the district with $2,000 in mini-grants for teachers as part of
the Chamber's Best BET (Business and Education Together) Program.
"The Best BET Program has been in place for
seven years," said Superintendent Cali
Olsen-Binks. "The Chamber of Commerce
sponsors the Best BET program. It's a
program where our teachers can apply for grants
for instructional support in their classrooms:
sometimes it might be a school garden, other
times it has been different chemistry projects -
it's been community service projects.
They've awarded over $125,000 to Fontana over
the past seven years. One of their biggest
donors is Learning Plus Associates. They
have a very strict committee that reviews all of
the applications and they go through the process
of choosing our recipients"
