AP Scholars Recognized at Board Meeting


At the October 6, 2010 Board of Education Meeting, ninety FUSD high school students who earned AP Scholar Awards were recognized for their hard work and achievements. This year, A.B. Miller had 9, Fontana had 25, Kaiser had 38, and Summit had 18.

The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.  Although there is no monetary award in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any score report that is sent to colleges the following fall.

Fourteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

  • Kaiser – James Blower, Margarita Cuadras, Kristen Danhour, Jose Jimenez, Michael Panameno, Diana Pimentel, Desi Tinoc, Maria Huerta, Becky Marez, and Frank Wolverton
  • Summit – Carina De La Cueva and Diana Navarro

Nine qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

  • Fontana – Alma Carillo, Karis Martinez, and Denver Smith
  • Kaiser – Sasha Grimes, Lee Osier, and Jabir Padda
  • Summit – Lumi Lanuza and Cherri Taite

Sixty-seven students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

Students took the AP exams during the 2009-10 school year.  The College Board sent notification to students and schools at the beginning of October.  Many of the students were seniors last year when the took the exams and have since graduated and are attending colleges around the country.
