Students at
Oleander Elementary School received a special "Back to School"
surprise from Costco today when representatives from the store
handed out backpacks and school supplies.
Costco representatives Tina DelGeorge Membership/Marketing
Manager and Christine Worley of the Marketing coordinated the
distribution as 500 students in grades 2, 3, and 4 each
received a new backpack and school supplies. Students in
grade 5 that are in need also received backpacks and school
supplies.
The Sierra Lakes Parkway Costco adopted Oleander Elementary
School and will be providing merchandise to help the school's
PTA with fund raising and to help celebrate academic achievement
and good attendance this school year. On Thursday, August 12,
they supported Oleander during their annual Back to School Night. Costco gave out food items and also sold memberships. For every membership sold the school received $10.
Oleander Principal Craig Baker shared how grateful he is to Costco for their generosity. “Today my oldest son John began school,"
he said. "I never realized how expensive it is to start school. The fact that Costco is willing to help our families by alleviating the costs associated with purchasing school supplies is of a great help. I am looking forward to working with Costco this year.”
