Dear Fontana Community,
The Fontana Unified School District finds itself in a critical funding dilemma. The State of California has failed to meet the financial obligations to public education. Money used to pay your child’s education has been delayed. The District has been notified by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools that scheduled payments to all districts will not be made as previously assured by the State.
Failure by the State to fund districts in a timely manner has caused all educational organizations to take drastic measures. We must ensure we meet our financial obligation. Immediate action by the district will include, but is not limited to the following:
- Hiring Freeze
- Freeze District Funded Tutoring
- Cancel all Travel/Conferences (unless already paid)
- Reduced Substitute Coverage (with the exception of critically needed positions such as classroom teachers, bus drivers, kitchen operators)
- No Site or District Trainings
- Only Necessary Maintenance and Upkeep at all District Facilities
The State fiscal crisis has forced us to take immediate measures to ensure the District can meet its financial obligations. Even with the numerous cuts already made on the part of all staff
and faculty members of the District we find ourselves once again the victims of a state that has the inability to confirm a budget.
The Fontana Unified School District will continue to provide the best possible instructional program with the funding provided to us by the state.
Sincerely,
Cali L. Olsen-Binks
Superintendent
