FUSD Celebrates "Day of the Teacher"

"Teachers play a key role in our life and have a major share in shaping it. It is a teacher who, with a chalk and board, teaches us the lessons of life. In the small world of our school, our teachers give us a glimpse of the universe on the small school playground. They instill in our minds the skills of a sports champion in the smallest of the classrooms, they inculcate in the us the virtues of life. Words are never enough to thank these role models of our life, our teachers."

At their May 4, 2011 meeting, the FUSD Board of Education will take action to adopt Resolution #11-58 recognizing May 11, 2011, as "Day of the Teacher."

Teachers work to open student's minds to ideas, knowledge, and dreams.  They fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors.  Teachers work with commitment in forwarding the mission of the Fontana Unified School District and provide many benefits to the community, its schools, and the state of California.

"Day of the Teacher" arose out of legislation co-sponsored by the California Teachers Association and the Association of Mexican American Educators.  Senator Montoya wrote the bill and it was adopted in 1982 as Senate Bill1546.

The Fontana Unified School District joins the State of California in setting aside May 11, 2011, as a fitting time to honor our teachers and recognize their long and excellent service records.
