Amanda Bentley Hired as New Athletic Director at Fohi
At the August 18,
2010 meeting of the Fontana Unified School District Board of Education, the
Board approved Amanda Bentley as the new Athletic Director of Fontana High
School.
Mrs. Bentley was born in Marshalltown, Iowa but moved to Orange County when she
was adopted at age 2 1/2. “So, I am basically a Southern California Girl,” she
said. After graduating from Villa Park High School, Mrs. Bentley attended the
University of California, Santa Barbara where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
English. She continued her education through Cal State Long Beach and Alliant
International University, earning a Teaching Credential, Administrative Services
Credential, a Master’s in Education, and a Master’s in Educational Leadership.
She began her teaching career at Sweetwater District’s Southwest High School in
San Diego where she was an English Teacher and Varsity Basketball Coach. “I’ve
always connected strongly with school, sports, and other students and teachers,”
said Mrs. Bentley. “I knew I had something positive to give in the field of
education and it is always what I wanted to do.” After she and her husband
relocated back to the Orange County area, she taught English at Montclair High
School in nearby Chaffey Joint Union High School District.
Mrs. Bentley says she is very much looking forward to beginning in her new
position. “It is exactly what I have been aiming for in my career and feel that
my communication and organization skills, along with my knowledge and interest
in high school athletics will serve me well in the position,” she said. “I am
excited to get to know the students, staff, and faculty at Fohi and to hopefully
help the athletics program grow with an effort to encourage our athletes to
achieve more academically.”
“When the search began to hire a new Athletic Director at Fohi,” said Dr. Sergio
Flores, Principal of Fontana High School, “my biggest priority was to find an
educator who valued academics, ethics and one who understood the big picture of
helping young people develop into great adults. Although many candidates
possessed these qualities, none did more than Amanda Bently. I am excited to
have Amanda on board to help continue our quest to have the best high school
athletic program in San Bernardino County. “
