Caroline Labonte Named New Principal of Sierra Lakes Elementary School
At the August 18, 2010 meeting of the Fontana Unified School District Board of Education, the Board approved Caroline Labonte as the new Principal of Sierra Lakes Elementary School.
Ms. Labonte was born in Indiana but says her family moved frequently as she was growing up because her father was in the military. “Most of my schooling was in Washington state,” she said. She attended Eastern Washington University, where she majored in Reading with a minor in Early Childhood Education. “I wanted to be a nurse when I first started college but later changed my major to Education after tutoring a group of fourth graders,” said Ms. Labonte. When she moved to California, she attended Cal State University, San Bernardino where she received her Master’s in Educational Administration.
Her entire teaching career has been here in Fontana. “This is my 15th year here in Fontana Unified,” said Ms. Labonte. “I started as a fourth grade teacher and have taught second through fifth grade, with most of my years in fourth and fifth grade.” She has also been a Teacher-on-Assignment in Instructional Services and an Assistant Principal.
Ms. Labonte will be filling the position left vacant by the transfer of Principal Andrea Credille to Cypress Elementary School. “I am privileged and honored to be the new principal here at Sierra Lakes Elementary School,” said Ms. Labonte. “I am excited to be working in this community and with a staff that strives for excellence in education and has commitment to all children.”
“We are very excited to announce Ms. Labonte as the new principal of Sierra Lakes Elementary School,” said Oscar Duenas, Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services. “She brings a wealth of experience and has a strong reputation for her skills as an instructional educator. We are in no doubt that Ms. Labonte will continue to build on the excellent work already being done at the school.”
