Elementary and middle school students in the Fontana Unified School District will demonstrate their mathematical skills as a part of the District's 47th Annual Math Field Day competition on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at A.B. Miller High School. The competition begins at 8 a.m., with the 4th and 5th Grade Awards Ceremony taking place at 10:50 am and the 6th-8th Grade Awards Ceremony taking place at 2:50 p.m.
Teams of 5th, 6th, 7th
and 8th grade students are involved in several different types of
math knowledge testing and strategy games. The topics include terminology,
problem solving, calculator skill use, mental mathematics, basic skills
arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Five mathematically based strategy games are
played in a tournament-like competition. Students will be awarded medals for
first through fifth places. In addition, based on individual student
performance, schools compete for overall awards.
